About Clean Cities

The East Bay Clean Cities Coalition is one of almost 100 independent other Clean Cities Coalitions across the country. These coalitions are volunteer organizations formally sponsored by the federal Department of Energy (DOE) and created as the "grassroots" local connection for coordinated nationwide petroleum reduction efforts and initiatives. The Clean Cities program is part of the Fuels & Lubricants Technologies division housed within the Vehicles Technology Program which is part of the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE).

Over the years, Clean Cities coalitions have expanded their scope from petroleum use reduction to include closely aligned environmental issues such as energy efficiency and clean air projects. The Clean Cities program continues today as a remarkable success story in forming local volunteer organizations into a successful nationwide network.

East Bay Clean Cities Coalition

The East Bay Clean Cities coalition is a non-profit 501 (C) organization operated entirely by volunteer staff. East Bay was officially chartered as a Clean Cities Coalition in 1994 by a core group of dedicated local organizations sharing a common interest in the mission and goals of Clean Cities. Clean Cities is dedicated to replacing, reducing, and eliminating petroleum consumption while lessening the dependence of our nation upon imported petroleum products. Today the coalition has over 60 active stakeholders and is rapidly growing. The East Bay Clean Cities Coalition currently represents Alameda County, Contra Costa County, and parts of Solano County and is in the process of expanding our geographic region north to include Sonoma County and Napa County. The coalition is lead by a Board of Directors comprised of representatives selected from government and private industry.

Since its inception, the Clean Cities program has achieved many accomplishments including the displacement of more than 2.4 BILLION gallons of gasoline! Not content to rest upon their laurels, the Clean Cities program continues to aggressively pursue the goals and strategies of the organization.

Clean Cities is widely recognized as an industry leader in providing alternative fuel information resources and information on current alternative fuel funding resources. We thank you for visiting our website and hope you enjoyed the experience. We look forward to your comments and hope to work with you to reduce, replace, and eliminate petroleum fuel consumption while making our communities a better place to live and work!
